Future Talent off to a flying start 24th February 2017

Generating Genius is working with SThree, a global recruitment company specialising in STEM skills, to provide our year 12 students with insights into the working world as part of our ‘Future Talent’ programme. In February half term our first cohort had a fantastic time in placements in varied fields, from tech and finance, to medicine. However they all had something in common: the need for STEM skills!

The week was different for each student and on Friday they convened with their hosts at SThree to give presentations on what they had learnt. Gary Elden, OBE, CEO and Marie Broad, Head of CSR at SThree, were there to hear about students’ experiences. Marie said:

It was incredibly impressive to hear the students’ reflections from their placements, and how they’ve already distilled key learnings to support their future ambitions. They’ve all done amazingly well in making strong impressions with our employer partners – we’re really proud of them!”

Lydwine, a year 12 student who attends a sixth form college in Haringey is keen on a career in the tech sector. She spent the week with Media IQ Digital, a company that specialises in digital advertising and using data analytics technology to help businesses grow. Lydwine says:

“It was a faultless environment – welcoming smiles and intense work being done with purpose and solidarity. Before I started, I didn’t know that the media-technology sector existed. Now I definitely want to enter this industry!”

Gina, HR Assistant at Media IQ Digital, who organised the placement was pleased to see that the programme has benefits for her team too:

“This was our first time offering work experience. It’s helped us to develop new perspectives and ideas as well as boosting the confidence of our staff in terms of mentoring, supervising and sharing their knowledge. We’re looking forward to hosting more students.”

Huge thanks to all of the companies that hosted placements in half term, we look forward to working with you again.
