Academic TutorING Coordinator – PAID ROLE

This is a challenging and exciting role, working with Generating Genius’ Project Manager to coordinate a 1-to-1 academic tutoring programme for young people from diverse backgrounds. Tutoring is available for Generating Genius students currently in Year 12 or 13, supporting them to advance their achievement in STEM (science, technology, maths and engineering) subjects at A level. This programme is an essential part of our students’ journey to reach the most selective universities.

The Academic Tutoring Coordinator will work closely with Generating Genius staff to manage the day-to-day running of weekly sessions, to be held at UCL’s Euston Campus. This role will also involve a few hours a week of administration, contributing to Generating Genius’ monitoring and evaluation of the programme. This is an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates looking to gain experience in project/event management, and for those looking to make a difference to disadvantaged, talented young people.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS – Monday 10th October 2016

We would like to hear from current students, post graduates and professionals with a university degree in a STEM subject who can spare one or two evenings a week from autumn 2016.  Volunteers will play a key role in supporting the next generation of STEM talent by providing tailored support over the course of the school year, at regular sessions to be held at UCL. GG will provide support and basic training, but applicants should have a good grounding in their subject area and be keen to find engaging ways to share their knowledge.

Generating Genius ‘alumnus’ Gus Mensah, now a biomedical sciences student at Queen Mary, University of London, says:

“I absolutely jumped at the opportunity to be a part of Generating Genius once again as an Academic Tutor. The exciting summer school courses I attended as a GG student introduced us to many different areas of science and engineering. I’m hoping to instil the same excitement into the next generation through the Academic Tutor programme. And because I know what it’s like to be studying for A-levels, I can offer really practical support as students prepare for these crucial exams. Generating Genius is a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I hope the next generation of GGers will find it as useful as I did.”

If you are interested in becoming a GG Academic Tutor for the academic year starting in September, please complete the online application form.
