Jobs and Volunteering

Project Officer

This is a challenging and exciting position, with varied responsibilities for someone looking to work with young people and have a real impact on their academic and career success. Generating Genius is a small, growing organisation; we need someone with a positive, can do attitude and an ability and work with a high degree of independence to achieve their objectives. As part of a small team you will have your own objectives but will be expected to contribute to all areas of the organisation. The combination of responsibilities means this is a great opportunity for someone looking to further their career in the not for profit sector.

The successful candidate will manage our STEM careers related provision for year 12 & 13 cohorts, developing strong relationships with students and the corporate supporters involved in the delivery of the programme. They will also take the lead of the development of an alumni programme – working with our existing database and preparing a programme of events for those who will become alumni in the next year. Both of these projects require exemplary relationship building skills and savvy use of technology to communicate with young people.

As part of a small team, in addition to project delivery responsibilities, the post holder will be expected to contribute to the effective running of GG as an organisation. In this case we are seeking someone to develop and deliver our communications – particularly online. On this basis the candidate will be an exemplary communicator able to share the GG story with confidence and passion, both in oral and written form. They will be adept at understanding their audience – from school students and alumni through to senior industry figures and providing the necessary narrative to enthuse them about GG.

*This programme is currently closed but we will be recruiting again in the autumn!*

We would like to hear from current students, post graduates and professionals with a university degree in a STEM subject who can spare one or two evenings a week from autumn 2017.  Volunteers will play a key role in supporting the next generation of STEM talent by providing tailored support over the course of the school year, at regular sessions to be held in central London.  GG will provide support and basic training, but applicants should have a good grounding in their subject area and be keen to find engaging ways to share their knowledge.

Generating Genius ‘alumnus’ Gus Mensah, now a biomedical sciences student at Queen Mary, University of London, says:

“I absolutely jumped at the opportunity to be a part of Generating Genius once again as an Academic Tutor. The exciting summer school courses I attended as a GG student introduced us to many different areas of science and engineering. I’m hoping to instil the same excitement into the next generation through the Academic Tutor programme. And because I know what it’s like to be studying for A-levels, I can offer really practical support as students prepare for these crucial exams. Generating Genius is a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I hope the next generation of GGers will find it as useful as I did.”

If you are interested in becoming a GG Academic Tutor for the academic year starting in September 2017 please email and we will let you know when re reopen applications.
