We not only run a summer school but also a mentoring programme that links our students with Science Undergraduates.

Why does Generating Genius exist? The need for special pathways to success
Most out-of-school academic programmes target either the
lowest or highest performing students. The low performing
students receive remedial services to bring them up to competency
levels, while the top students are often on gifted and talented
programmes which have few minority students. This leaves
a large segment of talented public school students to struggle
through the obstacles of large class size, and ill-equipped
classrooms. These students typically lack the resources,
guidance, and knowledge to successfully prepare for selective
University admissions - and have not honed the writing and
critical thinking skills, which will ensure their success
once on campus. This situation wastes human talent and perpetuates
inequalities in our society.
This is particularly relevant for boys of African Caribbean background who statistically have the worst proportion nationally when it comes to school exclusions, exam passes, numbers in prison, numbers in mental institutions and the lowest in terms of entry into our top Universities.
